The Greatest Turmeric Latte
I love a Golden Turmeric Latte. I love the color, and the way they make me feel soo healthy. I mean turmeric, what an exotic and healthy spice, right? And if I am drinking it I will live to be 100. The latter part may not be true but Turmeric is an amazing spice full of so many health benefits. So what are the health benefits of Turmeric? Well, I’m glad you asked:
The main component of turmeric is curcumin which is great for inflammation, so I love to sneak it in as much as I can since my husband is on his feet so much. Any little that can help him recover is a win! It has been researched in improving symptoms of depression, arthritis, cancer, viruses, and even helping with stomach upsets. Now this may sound too good to be true, but I will take my chances and enjoy my Turmeric Latte a couple times a week!
Now to be totally transparent, when my older daughter gets those never ending colds, that don’t slow them down but just seem to leave a runny nose or small cough - I make her this latte but have to add about 1-2 tsp on honey. Honey helps as an antibacterial, but also makes it easier for her to drinks because there are a lot of spices in this drink - and I love it!
So what all is in it?
Turmeric - Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, boosts brain health, supports heart health, good for pain relief due to anti-inflammatory properties, digestive aid, and it may reduce cancer risk
Pepper - As weird as it sounds, Turmeric needs pepper so the Curcumin is more readily bioavailable for our bodies to use
Cinnamon - High in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, helps improve insulin sensitivity and regulates blood sugar, improves circulation, antimicrobial, improves brain health, improves digestion, and could help with menstrual cramps as well.
Ginger - Digestive aid, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea (can be beneficial for morning sickness), good for pain relief as well , Boosts immune system with its antiviral and antimicrobial properties, regulates blood sugar, promotes heart health
Collagen- improves skin health and may help reduce wrinkles, supports joint health, promotes gut health, it is a protein so may increase muscle mass, strengthens bones, supports nail health
Milk - Any type of milk will do in this drink. Coconut milk will add a little sweetness, whole milk is extra creamy and thick giving it that Latte flavor, but you can also use any nut milk - it may just seem a bit more watery.
So do you get why this is the Greatest Turmeric Latte Ever, yet? The minute I start feeling sick, I love heating up a glass of this and sipping on it in the morning, it instantaneously makes me feel so much better! Also, you can see why I love giving it to my daughter when she has a cold, with all of the antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory ingredients it really helps her immune system rev up.
The Greatest Turmeric Latte
Heat this up as soon as you start feeling under-the-weather, or want to prevent from getting sick! This is also really comforting after a hard workout, to prevent muscle soreness.
Ingredients
1 mug size of whole milk or coconut milk (I fill my mug up with milk and dump it in the pot)
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp turmeric
2 tbsp collagen
1-2 cracks of black pepper, or 1/2 tsp of black pepper
2 tsp vanilla
Instructions:
Fill you mug up with you milk, and dump it in the pot. This helps get just the amount you need for your mug! I find some of my mugs are a bit smaller or bigger than others.
Bring your milk to a boil, then add the ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, collagen, black pepper, and vanilla. Reduce to a simmer and let it simmer for about 3 minutes, or until the spices dissolve.
Remove from heat, and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg if you would like.
If you are making this for your kids, it can help to add 2 tsp on honey. And honey has it whole hosts of benefits as well, you just want to make sure to add it at the very end to keep all of its amazing enzymes intact.
