I always struggled with going ‘sugar-free’ for many reasons: I do not always want a bowl of greens, my toddler will not eat said salad, and I do not have the time to cook sperate meals for everyone in the household. I also don’t want something that is labeled as sugar-free but still has 3/4 cup of some sort of artificial or sweetener replacement (honey, stevia, maple syrup, erythritol…). I mean what was the point of removing sugar, just to replace it with other ‘sugar’?
I needed more carbs and cheese, and treats…I just didn’t want my family to have all that unnecessary sweet flavor added. What about the spices and herbs, or the natural sweetness of a piece of fruit?? Why do we cover every flavor up with loads and loads of sugar? Whenever I looked up sugar-free recipes I rarely found something that my whole family would enjoy, that also wasn’t filled with ‘low-glycemic’ sweeteners, or other things that can be labelled as ‘no added-sugar’. I started to follow my own path. With a lot of different mouths to feed: an extremely picky toddler, a ultrarunning husband, and a 10 month baby; I need quick, easy, but healthy meals that everyone will eat.
I’m not a chef, or a photographer, but I love creating delicious meals that fuels my busy family. I want to remove all of the added sweeteners from the house, and only eat whole food. Yes, this means I eat fruit, and I also cook with flour. Personally, I do have reactions to gluten so I try to avoid it as much as possible. But my family loves it, and it is affordable and delicious so you will see a variety of recipes. These recipes have inspired me and the majority are easy, family-friendly and filled with good food. I hope that other families can enjoy them too!
So here I am, taking on the challenge of finding your favorite recipes (Hello, Doughnuts), but making them sugar-free! Each of these meals you see are things I have cooked and plates that I have given to my family. I don’t have time, nor the talent, to professionally stage a photo. As such, I photograph what I am bringing to the table.
