7 to 9 Months -BLW Menu

From 7-9 Months I offer about 2 meals a day, and start to include some smaller pieces that work on the pincer grasp. I also offer preloaded spoons for them to practice using silverware. At this stage I also offer a small open mouthed cup at every feeding, I try to stick around no more than 2 oz a day, but there will be a lot of dribbling going on and not so much drinking. I offer the cup, and help bring it to their mouth so they can get used to drinking from a cup! We don’t use sippy cups, I have read (and our pediatrician recommended) that they can cause some issues with oral development and speech.

If your baby is constipated, you can try to add any of the P fruits (pears, plums, peaches). And lots and lots of fermented foods like Kefir and Yogurt. I also add in a extra ounce or 2 of water until the constipation passes. Then can be very sad to watch but it will pass! There are also some drops from companies like Earthly that are made to help with baby constipation if it an ongoing issue. I would look at diet changes as well though. At night I always do one Epsom salt bath a week because the Magnesium not only helps with sleep, and is an essential nutrient, it can help get things moving as well!

Some healthy and easy snacks we love traveling with are:

  • Beans, Tofu, Strawberries, Cucumbers, Nori Seaweed Strips (I actually don’t like these, but they are such a good flavor for the little ones and super cheap), Lentils, Sweet Potato Fries, Watermelon and Fresh Fruit, Eggs, Nut Butter thinly spread on toast, and any leftovers from the other meals!

Month 7 -

To keep it easy I plan to start all my days with Kefir, Yogurt, Oatmeal (with flax to prevent constipation), or eggs. This is typically what we eat and so it makes it easy to serve. If we make a smoothie, we will just serve that as well with a spoon or maybe some banana chunks.

Lentils are a superfood for babies and are very cheap and healthy. We love lentils in this house. You can cook them in coconut milk for a fun flavor, or in chicken or vegetable stock for added nutrition, just make sure it is no salt added.

Chia Pudding, Chia pudding is so delicious (you can see some of my recipes here.) It is very messy though, so I would do this one without clothes on! Chia can be really hard to get out of outfits!

Steamed Broccoli. A whole head of steamed broccoli is so fun to watch your baby chow down on! Include the stem so it gives them something to hold onto. The stems get super soft and are edible as well!

Things like Chicken Wings are so fun to feed your little one and help them learn how to chew and move things in their mouth without a risk of choking. Serve a chicken wing that is pretty stripped, with just a couple pieces of larger meat on the bone and watch your little one grab it and swing it around! Things like this are also great for teething relief.

Here are some flavor combinations for the other meals that may be worth trying:

Zucchini, Mashed Potatoes, with Thyme

Salmon with Dill

Burgers with Avocado

Pumpkin Oats with Greek Yogurt

Teff Porridge with Bananas, Cinnamon, and Yogurt

Pesto with Brown Rice Pasta

Cottage Cheese and Strawberry

Meatballs with Tomato Sauce

Month 8-

Shredded Pork or Chicken

Month 9 - The pincer grasp should really get going this month, so you can add smaller pinchable foods like whole beans and smaller slices. Also things they can dip are super fun, like guacamole, hummus, or tomato soup!

Quinoa with Black Beans

Sage, Apple, Sweet Potato, and Ground Turkey Bowl

No Sugar Added Muffins

Steak and Mashed Potatoes

Grilled Chicken with Cheese

Smashed Blueberries with Cottage Cheese

Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese
